BEGINNING TRAINING

You don’t have to train for hours and hours just short sessions work best, then you can build on those. Like the sit command, sit means sit! Don’t repeat the command, just wait if he is a new puppy, or help him if he is just not responding or rusty at the command. Repeating only numbs them to what you ultimately want (LOL like a nagging spouse). Say the sit command then wait a few seconds, tap their rump if they are not responding, then praise as soon as they respond. Try again, command, then wait…, as soon as you get the result, praise again. Walk on a few paces then try again. Repeat 2 or 3 times and when he gets it right put him away for a few minutes. This lets the dog have time to process and file the information, then he knows he was right. If you keep doing it over and over without stopping he will never know he was right. His responses will get faster and faster, as they really do want to please.
